catalogue part # different than audi online part sites?

I drive:a4 2002

i needed some parts for my 2002 a4, so i got the number from the part and double checked also in the catalogue. When i ordered by the part number from the online audi oem retailer , they told me they don't have that part, also on the oem part search it doesn't appear. When i browse in their catalogue i select the part and i can order it. Am i missing a part # conversion trick or something? it really intrigues me.
