I have an old Audi 80 - year model 1987 - still going strong, but I have one problem:

Sometimes - usually after driving more than an hour - it refuses to start again. It doesn't make any sound.

Then after maybe half an hour it starts normally.

It is quite unpleasant because I have no idea, why it does that ( =doesn't start)

I have a new starter, new cables to the starter, new ignition key system...

After replacing practically everything between the ignition key and the starter motor I found a relay, which is called "relief terminal relay".

Somebody told me that it is also so called x-contact relay, which has many purposes.

Could anybody tell me the meaning of this relay?

Could it be the cause for that mysterious starting problem?

It would be nice know if somebody else has had this problem...

Hi!
I have problem.
I cannot open my rear door using the handle.
The handle is not tensed anymore and it is soft(you can pull in order to open the trunck but with no result)

I put out the inner door ornament in order to see the mechanism.
Now... my big problem is... how should it be correctly assebled?
I looked on http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/au/A80/1994/150/56/1612769/ but i did not understand much.

Can you give me some info about what should i do to repair it?

Thanks!

Hi to you all. I hope somebody can help me? My Audi is a 1994 model 80 TDi.
The speedometer has stopped registering mileage done. Can someone tell me which sensor I need to replace and where is it situated? This is a fantastic site, I only wish it could add where some of the elusive parts are on the car. I thank you all in advance.

Hi, I have an Audi 80 -94, with a few problems related to the cooling system:

1. The water in the expansion tank is completely cold even after 30 minutes of driving (not sure when this problem started). The radiator seems to have normal temperature.

2. Also the warning lamp is flashing all the time (this appeared a few days ago).

3. The fan always run when the ignition is on (these has been a fact for a year or so). I believe I should just exchange the thermo-switch?

I have an oil temp meter saying it's about 70C (158F 431K) and when touching the engine it seems to have normal temperature.

So it's probably two different faults (or maybe three). I tried yesterday to exchange the expansion tank, with the water level switch, with no success.

Regards Magnus
