AUdi 100 stalls occasionally and hard starting when engine is hot
My 1991 Audi 100 (about 150K mileage) sometimes stall when slowing down on an incline or sudden braking .Also has starting problems when engine is hot. It's OK if restart immediately after switching off but if I wait 5 minutes or so, it is difficult to start. From observation it appears to be flooding because after a 5 or 6 cranks it slowly comes back to life!! Smells of petrol when I am driving sometimes. No problem starting in the morning. Could it be the coolant temperature sensor?. Is the oil temperature sensor the same item? Really having tough time trying to figure out the fault. Hope someone can help. Thanks

Hello Kk,
I suspect it's the fuel pressure regulator. Is your a C3, 5-cyls, 2.3lt? I own 2 "wives", one in 1994 and in 2000 and will never divorce them. Where are you based? I'm from Subang.
I may be able to assist you and know some very experienced Audi mechs. esp. in troubleshooting and repairing Audis, both old and new models.
I can be reached at cell phone : 017-8788333 or e-mail:thomasfu@streamyx.com

Hi,
i had a very similar problem and, although i could never be sure, i cured it by replacing the breathing hoses around the engine. i never smelled petrol though but on close inspection i found holes in the top and bottom air hoses so i swapped them all with other second hand ones and the problem never appeared again. this was on my type 44 2.3 5 cylinder '90 100 avant quattro.
my advice before you spend any money, dealers loved telling me it was this part or the other and giving me quotes, is to examine all the hoses and check for holes; if you find one repair that first...
hope this helps
