Coolant leak
Hi,
VM Transporter T4, 2.5TDI, 2001, AJT.
It's decided to dump the entire contents of the coolant system and when refilled, dumps it all again in a couple of minutes. Fill her up and it just starts pouring out . No history of needing to top up or anything similar.
The leak is behind the timing belt cover so I assume it's the water pump. Has anyone come across this before? Is it likely to be the pump itself, the thermostat, one of the gaskets?
Want to make sure i've not missed something obvious or a know fault before I think about taking off the timing belt.
Thanks....

I\'d say water pump. Have you had your cambelt done recetly? The company who did mine as special tools are required, didnt change the water pump, ended up changing belts twice, I won;t fit a used belt either. The Water pump bearing had let go as it has be untensioned and retensioned different. pissed water out everywhere then started to make a bad noise so got it changed!
Some VW water pumps are plastic/bacolite material, shop around to GSF or Euro for a metal replacement, had similar problems with a 2.0 Beetle

Have you checked all the hoses around the affected area. MY T4 came home on a AA truck (oh the irony, ex AA on an AA) with water pump issues. He tested it telling me it was the water pump that had gone hence it kept dumping all the water. Took the engine pan off to see what was going on and it turned out to be a hose that has split but was only opening at warm temps. All it cost me was one hose.
