Cold water in expansion tank
Hi, I have an Audi 80 -94, with a few problems related to the cooling system:
1. The water in the expansion tank is completely cold even after 30 minutes of driving (not sure when this problem started). The radiator seems to have normal temperature.
2. Also the warning lamp is flashing all the time (this appeared a few days ago).
3. The fan always run when the ignition is on (these has been a fact for a year or so). I believe I should just exchange the thermo-switch?
I have an oil temp meter saying it's about 70C (158F 431K) and when touching the engine it seems to have normal temperature.
So it's probably two different faults (or maybe three). I tried yesterday to exchange the expansion tank, with the water level switch, with no success.
Regards Magnus

Hi,
Exchanged the thermo-switch which solved issue 1 and 3, so the problem 2 remains (about the cooling warning lamp flashing).
Kind regards /Magnus

is the sensor in the expansion tank connected?? it has 2 probes in the tank and electricity is conducted through them by the coolant, if the wire is disconnected then the supply probe wont have 12V and if the wire is connected then check if it has 12V, if it does then your problem lies in the signal wire, maybe 12V is not getting through it,check if the probes are corroded or that you are getting 12V out of the signal line, if you are then you probably have an open circiut some where after the coolant tank. hope this helps
